How to get rid of cosmetic surgery scars?
In an era when none of us are allowed to get older, we now see cosmetic surgery as not only an accepted choice, but almost expected for those that are in the public eye. While we have all seen some of the movie stars that looked like the perverted vision of the mother in the movie ‘Brasil”, there are some that we know had surgery, but look flawless. What’s their secret? What magician surgeon did they go to? And most of all you just have to know how they got rid of surgery scars?
Your surgeon or surgeon’s office should be the one to advise you on all of this, but, since they don’t always remember, you are smart to do a little research ahead of time. The first thing that you have to remember is that new scars are easier to get rid of than old ones. That means that you will need to keep a new surgery scar clean and moisturized. If it scabs, leave it alone. Removing any scabs will incur additional scarring. As the skin begins to heal, it is fresh and new. Keep it out of the sun. New skin doesn’t have the pigmentation level and it can easily burn. The massage process should be over the scar and in both a horizontal and vertical motion. You will be able to tell if you are doing it correctly as the skin will lighten in color. Your main concern is ensuring that the massage is done well and the moisturizing process maintains the elasticity of the skin.
Increasing the blood flow to the scar area will help in the healing process by producing additional collagen. Massage is always recommended. Using a topical cream can make the massage process easier, but don’t rely on the cream itself. Most studies show that it’s the massage that can get rid of cosmetic surgery scars, not the creams and oils.
If you do need to use an oil or cream, make sure that you test it first on other areas of the body. Vitamin E oil is highly revered, however some people have allergic reactions. Some of the silicone based sheets that are on the market have shown some positive results. Usually they have a gel on the sheets. Many seem to feel that it’s the pressure that is supposed to be applied with the sheets that is actually helping the healing process.
If your post cosmetic surgery has been cared for and you are still left with scarring, you will need to have a conference with a dermatologist. There are many processes that you can decide on: dermabrasion, chemical peels, surgical scar removal, laser resurfacing and even the injection of steroids.
If you are the type of person that might be considered gullible, do not fall prey to the promises of those that are not qualified. Products are released onto the market by the hundreds and the promises of removing cosmetic surgery scars are usually not what they are cracked up to be. Always confer with a qualified professional when treating any scar problem.

An ironic topic this. Has anyone out there had scars from plastic surgery that hung around even after measures had been taken? Has anyone got any advice on what to do about it that was touched on in the article?January 18th, 2011 at 8:21 am
