Top 5 Natural Methods of Burn Scar Treatment

Burn Scar Treatment

  • Burn scar treatment, such as applying pressure to the wound or rubbing Vitamin K on the area, may work for new injuries
  • Blue yarrow oil is particularly effective against radiation burns
  • Papaya or lime juice can also be handy burn scar fighters

Burns can be minor or can be very severe. They are very painful and can cause severe skin damage. Unfortunately that damage does not always go away without leaving some reminders behind. If you don’t want to be left with those awful reminders, you need to consider some of the different types of burn scar treatment that are available.

For very severe scars, burn scar removal through surgical means may be the only option. However, for less severe cases, the five natural methods below may be a good place to begin experimenting with scar treatments.

5. Pressure

Pressure garments are one of the most effective methods of burn scar treatment which does not require surgery. When the pressure is applied consistently it can prevent the build-up of additional skin cells that cause a thickening of the skin and the formation of the scars. Additionally, that pressure has been shown to prohibit inflammation which can increase the risk of scarring. Unfortunately, pressure only works while the new injury is healing. You need to use this method to prevent the scar from forming in the first place.

4. Vitamin K

Vitamin K is one of the most important nutrients for healthy skin. Many lotions and moisturizers include this vitamin. Some studies have suggested that by increasing your intake of Vitamin K and/or applying topical Vitamin K to the burn area you can the risk of scarring. Again, you need to do this while the healing is taking place. Vitamin K is not an effective burn scar treatment for old injuries.

3. Lime Juice

Before you use lime juice to treat any scar, make sure the wound has healed up. You do not want to apply citric acid to an open wound. That would be very painful and could cause irritation that would make proper healing difficult. Once the healing is finished (wait about one month just to be safe) squeeze the juice out of a lime and rub it into the healed wound. Allow the juice to stay on the area for 10 minutes. Wash off the juice. Repeat this process daily and you’ll begin to see the scar lighten.

2. Blue Yarrow Oil

If you are trying to find a burn scar treatment for radiation burns, then blue yarrow oil is going to be your best choice. This is a type of essential oil that is used a great deal in aromatherapy and in other types of alternative medications. For cancer patients whose radiation treatments have left behind these scars, you should combine water and up to 8 drops of the blue yarrow oil in an atomizer bottle. Let them combine for a couple of hours then spray a little bit of the mixture on the burn scar.

1. Papaya

Tropical fruits may not seem like the most likely burn scar treatment available but there is evidence that the fruit can be helpful. Crush the papaya manually and rub the fruit over the burn area. Because this tropical fruit includes enzymes it can continue to get rid of the dead skin cells so they won’t build up to cause scars.

Ive had my nose pierced for 2 years, i just took it out this weekened. I am trying my hardest to make it not scar... the area around it is also black because i used a cheap nose ring and so the paint came off it leaving me with a tattoo type mark on my nose. Using lime (i know i shouldnt on an open wound) but i think it burned my nose a little bit.. because it was so acidic, but at the same time it helped because now it looks like its peeling. Im going to try the vimatim k and c if that helps alot with my neosporn! thanx for posting

No doubt that organics can help with any skin problem. I think we're just beginning to realize the wealth of cures we have available to us right in our own backyards. I have used aloe for a long time for burns and rashes. I fortunately have never had a severe burn, but I would bet that aloe and these other ideas would really help in the healing process. Skin is a living tissue, meaning it's in a constant state of growth. Applying a natural ingredient to an open wound only makes sense.

It's crazy that I've never even heard of Vitamin K. I guess I knew there was one, just because there seems to be a vitamin for every letter of the alphabet, but that's pretty sweet. I'm guessing that it would work for other skin conditions other than burns as well?
