Working Moms have Better Mental and Physical Health

There is a new study presented by the American Sociological Association that indicates working moms have an increased state of mental and physical health as compared to those moms that chose to stay at home, worked part time or have had had a repeatedly out of work status.

Working Mom

The testing was accomplished on women at the age of 40 on all of the above mentioned working level types. The co-authors indicated that working is actually good on a number of different levels. For women, it offers a sense of self-efficacy, a purpose and both autonomy and control in their lives. The results indicated that the working Mom showed improved physical and mental health.

The group that showed the higher stress risk were those moms that experienced repeated nonworking status where the choice was not theirs. The stress factor of gaining and losing employment created less healthy physical and mental conditions.
