Use Natural Acne Remedies Wisely… or Get Skin Damage

While cleansers and facewashes are still prevalent in treating pimples, natural acne remedies have become more popular in recent years. This is mostly because it is very convenient and economical to do so, since the ingredients necessary can easily be found in one’s kitchen. Some examples of these acne treatments include rubbing affected areas with cucumber, lemon, or garlic, and even making a porridge mask. The most common amongst natural acne home remedies is actually toothpaste, because apparently it helps dry the grease in the skin, which is the primary cause of acne. Some less common examples of acne remedies include the usage of floral water, tomato pulp, raw papaya, and even soda pilgrim for exfoliation purposes. Mixing turmeric powder and mint juice is also one of the methods used as an acne treatment, as well as a mixing nutmeg with unboiled milk. And to avoid blackheads we are advised to mix groundnut oil with lime juice and apply it the entire face.

As a result of the popularity of these methods and with big name beauty brands confirming their effectiveness, some people have reverted to completely natural treatments (i.e. making their own.) However, without even realizing it, some of them may be doing more harm than good for their skin, because while the basis of the treatment is beneficial, there is a high risk for immediate or long term harm.

The author of Clear Skin Magic, Audrey Roberts, reacts to the new wave of natural acne remedies with worry. She says that people have to be extremely careful when making their own acne treatments. Of course, she acknowledges that there are some treatments that can do wonders for the skin, but if you don’t know exactly what you are doing, it can be a disaster. For example, tea tree oil is one of the best anti-acne treatments, but too much of it can damage the skin. Other oils can also be dangerous if not used in the right proportions. Roberts also says that those who want to use natural acne treatments should follow tried and tested recipes or even go to an herbalist who is informed about skincare.

Having sensitive skin or being highly allergic is something else that should be taken into consideration. Certain natural treatments can cause terrible rashes or break-outs. Roberts says that just because it worked for someone else, doesn’t mean that it will work for you too. Everyone’s skin is different and it’s important to find what works for yours, because when used in the right way, natural acne treatments can do amazing things for the skin. It’s even possible to have an anti-acne regimen with only natural acne treatments. Even then, you should be careful to be certain that the combination of treatments you use does not react negatively with each other and cause skin irritation. You may also want to think about the most natural acne treatment there is: lots of water, a diet that is high in fruit and vegetables, and lots of sleep.

I would like to use natural acne remedies, but there is wise caution in this article. I'm still confused, though. How do I know what will work for me and how much of it I need. My skin type is 'combination'.
