The UPS and Downs of US Durable Goods
Reports on the US durable goods side are a mixed bag of results. While non-military durable goods showed not only a slow down, but a reduction, this was based on the questionable European economies, and will probably remain so until that situation levels out. Businesses have unfulfilled orders left in inventory and are cutting back on overall production.
The military related durable goods actually showed an increase and transportation seemed to show a huge increase (14.1 percent). Another area that did well was computer equipment and technology, however, the strange part on that side is new orders for electrical equipment, fabricated metal products, machinery and appliances fell.
With the stockpiles of unfilled durable goods still in the warehouses, it is not looking that good for the up and coming quarters.
