Outdoor Time may Help to Prevent Kid’s Nearsightedness

New studies are being released that are showing a direct correlation between the amount of time spend outdoors and a lowered rate of nearsightedness (myopia).

Kid

Nearsightedness is a condition where distance vision is blurred. While this condition can be corrected with glasses, contacts or even surgery, it has long been thought that myopia may occur when there is insufficient distance viewing combined with a lot of close up viewing. Another theory is that outdoor exposure allows the body to increase its natural dopamine release which also may assist in protection from myopia. Additional studies will be needed, but the preliminary results in the reduction of cases of myopia with those children that had a higher instance of outdoor exposure is showing a hopeful direction.
