Years ago, the medical industry abandoned the idea that each person conformed to the same standard height chart measurements so they switched to the body mass index (BMI). But how can you determine if you have a healthy body mass index?

Using a Body Calculator

You’ve probably seen interactive calculators all over the Internet before, but you can also find some that will tell you your body mass index so you don’t have to go to the doctor and have the skin around your midsection pinched with caliphers (the device used to measure BMI).

To use the calculator, you simply enter the only two pieces of information that matter: your height and your weight. Almost instantly, you’ll be given your BMI and can use the scale provided to determine whether or not you have a healthy body mass. Anything under 18 is considered underweight while above 30 is considered obese.

Ideal Body Weight Calculators

You can also find calculators on the Internet that will tell you what your ideal body weight should be. Unfortunately, not all of these are based on the latest data. For example, some of the charts used for the calculations have not been revised since the 1970’s. However, they can give you some idea as to how much you should probably weigh. Give more attention to the measurements based on the BMI scale because these are most similar to what your medical professional will probably tell you as well.

However, some calculators ask you to add other information about your hip to waist ratio, your BMI if you know it, and other factors. After submitting tons of information calculators reports back to you about your current level of health based on the information. For example, you will receive an estimated BMI and an explanation of those results. You’ll also be given a breakdown of how many calories you should consume daily to lose weight, as well as how much of major nutrients you need to be consuming to stay healthy. You can also find out how much you would need to eat to maintain your current weight or to even gain weight.

Can you give some examples of these calculators - I mean, an actual formula we can use to find out the BMI? Because there isn't much point telling us about them if you don't tell us how to actually calculate it. Thanks!
