How to Invest in Solar Power – Tips From the Experts
Solar power is becoming more and more popular in nanotech space and the Green Tech. There is solar-cell paint, solar-cell shingles for roofs, and even solar-powered backpacks, which can charge a mobile phone if left in the sun. The question is how to be smart about which products to invest in. How can one effectively invest in solar power?
There are various companies worldwide, which are currently developing some amazing new solar power technologies. Yet many of them still face the usual problems of efficiency, cost, and production. Even if these new and exciting products end up functioning as well as they are advertised, mass producing them would remain a huge task.
So, there are two main ways to be able to make money from investing in solar power without getting stuck with a wonderful new solar company that doesn’t make any profit. The first way is to buy a solar company, which already exists and sells its products to customers. A good example of such a company is Spire Corp. The greatest thing about this solar company, even in this overly hyped-up sector, is that it doesn’t get much publicity, which means that it isn’t extremely overvalued. Spire Corp sells PV production facilities worldwide to various industries, which strive to diversify and/or improve their power consumption and generation profiles. It also has other divisions, like the semiconductor design/manufacturing division and the medical devices division, which are also doing quite well. The point is that this solar company is landing distribution deals and contracts in Germany, Spain, Portugal, India, as well as some very solid contracts in the US. The bottom line is that this company is making money. Spire Corp can easily compete in foreign markets and win.
The second way to properly invest in solar power and make money from it in general is to move in a totally different direction. Instead of investing into usual things like PV tech, you could, for example, invest in coatings technology. That’s where companies like Industrial Nanotech and 3M come in. The company 3M utilizes nanotech coatings on windows for strength. These coatings are also used to control the cooling and heating cycles in the building, as well as to control light passivity. Industrial Nanotech carries a line of coatings, which are used to contain heat in pipes, for example in oil/gas pipelines and deep-sea drilling rigs. They also sell coatings for office buildings, homes, and machines. This company is currently developing a coating, which utilizes the energy generated between a building’s warm interior wall and cold exterior wall to produce electricity. This is a real product that the company expects to release by next year. Industrial Nanotech’s other coatings and paints are currently available at Lowe’s stores, and it is preparing for wider distribution.
Of course, these kinds of products are not as exciting as thin film PVs, for example, but they are the ones making money now. Investing in new technologies involves buying into a company and trusting in scientific progress. However, being a company always comes first. So, you shouldn’t buy the hype. What you should buy is a company that has a worthwhile product, and which is able to get that product out to the people.
