Google Heath review – Do you want to keep your medical records online?

Google has launched a tool that it calls a technological solution to “an embarrassing problem”, where a developed country like the U.S. still tracks its health records as they did way back in the 1970’s. This tool is called Google Health, and it is a service that stores medical records online. Google Health promises to give its users a central, free, storehouse online for their medical records, which is a convenient method to share their health records and histories with healthcare providers and insurance companies.

Google Heath Review

The Google Health review says that this tool is supposed to keep track of your results, medical visits, and general medical records online. This service is password-protected, and it is aimed at reducing anxiety and frustration caused by waiting for medical test results.

The Google Health review has concluded that the new will allow you to do the following things:

  • Avoid the paperwork when you go to a new doctor
  • Keep your doctors up-to-date on your health records
  • Avoid doing the same medical tests due to the inability of your current doctor to obtain your previous doctor’s records
  • Manage your own health records, because you can access your medical records online anywhere, any time.
  • Avoid losing your health records because of moving or changing health insurance companies

However, the big issue in the Google Health review is whether this tool is secure. The main area of concern with it is consumer privacy. In Google Health’s terms of service, it openly says it may share the user’s personal medical records online with groups like affiliated companies, subsidiaries, the U.S. government if such a request is filed, as well as merger and acquisition partners, in the case that some day Google decides to sell its Google Health assets.

I don't know about keeping my medial records on the internet. Especially if google says it can share this information with other parties. Pretty much anything we do on the internet these days is open for everyone to see, so I'm not sure I want my medical records to be part of it. What does everyone else think?
