3 Ways Sun Exposure Can Make You Sick

Memorial Day has passed and it is now unofficially summertime. For most of us that means time spent at beaches, parks and outdoor barbeques. While overexposure to the sun can lead to skin cancer, there are other less discussed illnesses that are directly related to excessive sun.

3 Ways Sun Exposure Can Make You Sick

1) Cataracts
Research shows that exposure to UV radiation can increase the likelihood of cataracts. Cataracts blur your vision from the decreased transparency of your lens. While this often occurs as the eyes age, UV radiation can speed up the process and leave you with serious vision problems at a young age. Make sure you remember your sunglasses before you spend the day having fun in the sun.

2)

Spending extended periods of time in bright sunlight can lead to painful migraine headaches. These headaches can even last 24 hours! If you are easily susceptible to migraines it is even more important to wear a hat, sunglasses and take frequent breaks in the shade. Also make sure to keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water.

3) Skin Rashes

Heat rash is common when you spend extended time in the sun. Sweat glands can get clogged and form little red bumps on your body. It is more prevalent on the parts of your body where moisture can get trapped in your pores, such as on your neck or under your arms. This is especially prevalent with children and individuals who are overweight. Make sure to dry your body often if you spend extended time sweating in the sun
