3 Highly Dangerous Surgeries

Although most surgeries are routine, some procedures carry much higher risks than others. The benefits may still outweigh the negatives, but each of these procedures carry serious risks and may not even fix the problem or cure the illness. Below are three highly dangerous procedures.

3 Highly Dangerous Surgeries

1) Epileptic Surgery
Epileptic surgeries are focused brain surgeries that are determined by the type of seizure and its location in the brain. Some require the doctor to remove the part of the brain that is causing seizures other interrupt nerve pathways that enable the seizure to spread. This surgery is highly dangerous because it affects brain function and can lead to partial paralysis. Close to half the patients will still experience seizure despite removing part of the brain.

2) Aortic Dissection Surgery
When the inner wall of the aorta tears and allows blood to flow between the various layers of the aorta, surgery becomes a medical emergency. This can be caused by hypertension and heart disease as well as various genetic illnesses. Surgery entails replacing the damaged section of the aorta with a reimplantation of the aorta or a graft. The surgery can be be extremely risky because of the dangers of aortic rupture. Less the half of the patients who experience an aortic rupture survive.

3) Complex Spinal Fusions
Complex fusions involve fusing more than four vertebras and fusing both the front and back of the spine. While most people do not think of back surgery as high risk, complex fusions are three times more life threatening. They also require additional time in the hospital and at times require re-hospitalization. Furthermore, whenever you manipulate the spine there is always a risk of paralysis. Many patients continue to experience chronic back pain following the surgery.
