Natural remedies to lower blood pressure
High blood pressure or also known as hypertension seems to be one of the offshoots of our high stress society. While the computer was designed to assist us in our daily lives, we seem to be running to do more and catch up with the computers. High blood pressure is the silent killer. There can be few symptoms, if any, and it can kill without a warning.
Anyone who has lost someone due to a high blood pressure situation knows and understands that medication is a requirement. Even one instance of forgetting medication and a sudden high stress situation that elevates the blood pressure can be deadly. Our society has adopted many pharmaceutical medicines to address this condition; however, there are natural remedies to lower blood pressure. As a society we have increased interest in returning to some of the tried and true natural remedies that helped our ancestors.
The causes of high blood pressure are many and can be one or a combination of lifestyle, medical condition and heredity. Many practitioners and physicians are advising their patients to add natural remedies to lower blood pressure. It must be noted that the natural remedies should not be added to any dietary regiment in conjunction with standard medication. This can cause medicinal interactions and can actually do more harm by lowering the blood pressure too much. You should also consult with your primary care physician before adding any natural remedy to your diet.
Garlic is by far the most popular and the easiest to add in a diet to help to lower blood pressure. Garlic has been used throughout history to address hardening of the arteries, thrombosis and high blood cholesterol. Garlic is available in its natural form, as well as a variety of supplements, crushed and powders. If you are looking for the supplements, always purchase from a quality natural food store.
Amla, also known as Indian Gooseberry, is another natural remedy to keep blood pressure in check. Taken as a liquid and mixed with honey, it has been used throughout the ages.
Fresh watermelon, preferably organic, is not only tasty, but assists in keeping blood pressure from elevating. Both the seeds and the fruit are beneficial. Papayas are another fresh fruit that assists with blood pressure. The best method is to eat on an empty stomach.
Some of the cultures that have been adding the spicy hot cayenne pepper to their foods have known that this is not just for taste, but also helps to keep blood pressure down.
Fenugreek seeds as well as Tulsi (Holy Basil) have shown excellent results in lowering blood pressure. These herbs are not to be taken together. Take one herb only, twice per day on an empty stomach.
A combination of fennel seeds, sugar and cumin seeds, of equal proportions in a powdery mix has been one of Grandma’s favorites. The combined effect can help the blood pressure. Must have worked for Grandma, because she took it daily and she lived to be ninety years of age.
Always consult with your primary medical care giver prior to making any changes to your diet.

It's a good point about not mixing these natural remedies with blood pressure medications. Anythying I ever mix with my blood pressure pills reacts badly with them. But then, how safe is it to just switch to natural remedies and stop taking your regular medication?January 29th, 2011 at 10:17 am
